Metalworking

Magshape produces composite materials with a machinability similar to that of heavy metals, even if more brittle. The manufacturing process produces dust instead of chips.

Our materials can be worked by standard drilling, milling, turning and bandsaw cutting:

Bandsaw cutting

use sharp steel blades. In addition, liquid cooling system can also be applied.

Drilling

use drill bits in WIDIA or CARBOLOY. Magshape suggests a specific method to prevent the surface near the through hole from cracking, due to the fragility of the material: before the drill reaches its exit surface it is important to turn the piece upside down and drill the hole externally. This way the through hole will not damage the material.

Milling

various tools normally used for the processing of hard materials can be used, such as Solid carbide end mill and Widia milling inserts. Generally, medium/low speed is used in order to produce less dust, reduce the inserts’ temperature and consequently increase the life of the tool itself.

Turning

various tools normally used for the processing of hard materials can be used, such as Solid carbide turning inserts. Generally, medium/low speed is used in order to produce less dust, reduce the inserts’ temperature and consequently increase the life of the tool itself.
